some more thoughts on BC wines

Susan Slamka of Slamka winery saw my previous note on British Columbia Wines, and was kind enough to drop me some thoughts. I thought I’d share them for those of you interested.

Now, if we could only get the shipping issue resolved, so I can get my hands on a 2000 from her winery to compare… (FWIW, we’re likely going to open up a bottle to enjoy as we watch game one of the finals this weekend….)


It sounds from your entry on BC wines that you think 1999 was a pretty good year for our region, wine-wise�that is.� Maybe for whites, but for reds that is not the case.�In general, the ’99 reds are lighter and less intense than vintages immediately preceding or following.� Still, that doesn’t mean they don’t have something to offer.� The fruit is quite bright, and this means these wines will pair better with a broader range of cuisine–vegetarian and meat-based.� I hope that you enjoy our 1999 Pinot Noir.� And don’t be afraid to give it some air before you drink it–decanting will really open up the nose.
