recent selections from the cellar…

Tonight’s bottle is a Cedar Creek 2001 Pinot Noir. Last night, it was the Inniskillin 2001 Pinot.

Earlier this week, we tried the Lang Vineyards Chardonnay Ice Wine (they also do a Riesling and a Merlot ice wine that is just unbelievable.

one of the really neat things about visiting Victoria is access to British Columbia wines. You simple won’t find them in the States, and over the last five years or so, some of the wineries have relaly figured out how to get the most out of their vines up here, and as the vines mature, some really nice vintages are resulting. The pinots are soft and fruity, a perfect accompaniment to lamb (or in my case last night, a nice piece of rare seared ahi).

These days, there’s more to Canada than beer (and that makes it tough — so few evenings, so many microbrews, ciders, and vintages…). Any of these vintners (or Gray Monk, or Slamka Cellars, you’ll find some very enjoyable additions to your evenings….

(and if you have a bit of a sweet tooth, there’s always — this)
