News – Sharks Send Defenseman Doug Murray To Worcester On Conditioning Assignment – San Jose Sharks:

San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has assigned defenseman Doug Murray to Worcester (AHL) on a conditioning assignment.

Murray has not appeared in any games with San Jose this season.

I find this move interesting — why do this mid-road trip?

It may be that Murray isn’t coming back. The Sharks were carrying 8 defensemen after the surprise showing of Marc-Eduoard Vlasic (aka “Pickles”) in camp, earning him at least a long-look early in the season instead of a ticket back to junior. So far, nothing Vlasic’s done has indicated he ought to go back to junior — while the Sharks have a few more games to make the decision final, I’m guessing that Vlasic is staying, and Murray will end up joining worcester for a while.

Vlasic has shown incredible vision and poise so far. He doesn’t look like a rookie, much less a sub-20, junior eligible, not-sure-he-shaves-yet rookie.
