Sharks Rout Calgary 4-1
Sharks Route Calgary 4-1:
San Jose tied a franchise record with their second ever 3-0 start to a season thanks to a 4-1 victory in Calgary. San Jose and Vesa Toskala, who stopped 29 of 30 shots, surrendered only a later power play tally in a game they dominated throughout.
Game 3, and the Sharks made it look almost easy. Toskala was very sharp tonight, and the entire team seemed to be clicking.
My three stars: Toskala, Michalek and Cheechoo.
Bell is now on IR for a bad groin. If he was playing through a sore groin, that more than explains the weak play I was seeing; no pushoff, no strength, no acceleration. All is forgiven. Onto the Roster from IR, Ryan Clowe, who saw limited time. Onto the first line: Mark Smith, who probably went into the stall before the game to pinch himself and see if he woke up. he didn’t, and got a deflection goal for being willing to stand in the crease and be annoying; other than that, he held his end of the 1st line pretty well.
Vlasic continues to show no reason to send him back to junior. That kid has real presence.
About now, I’d normally start worrying about the team thinking this was going to be easy, and getting into bad habits. I’m not seeing that; what I’m seeing is focus. This could be really scary for teams….
a couple of days off, the team is off to Banff for some team-building, back in edmonton thursday. oh, I wish I could pop off to Banff whenever I had a couple of days off….
