Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day:

It’s clear this was about Jobs changing the face of Apple (“Inc.” not “Computer”). That’s why he basically blew off talking about the Mac right at the beginning.

Apple stopped being JUST a computer company a while back. the iPhone probably changes the transition, and makes it clear that the largest future for Mac OS X is as an embedded system in appliances. (FWIW, people who talk about “stripped down” don’t nkow what they’re saying. an embedded OS and a stripped down one are not necessarily the same thing. In this case, Mac OS X has clearly been enhanced for embedded products, not stripped….)

As an aside, long before I left, I had some folks come to my office one day and ask me “how long would it take you to find all references to “Apple Computer” on your web sites and update them if you need to?

This change has been long in planning. Today’s keynote made it inevitable. And I, for one, am glad to see the recognition of the changes going on inside Apple it implies….
