All well said, but replace "Darren Warren" with "Brad Watson". The thing about this game is that a quick glance at the box score and you know it was poorly called. When a team who is being outshot 26-8 has a 7-0 edge in PP oppurtunities, you know which team is winning the battles, and you know that the calls are not being made fairly. (and worse, the shot totals are even more astonding when you factor in the PP desparity). The larger issues that the NHL has to do something about however:
1) it seems that if the Sharks go on a PP binge (like earlier this season, and the 11 in two games recently), the PP opps drop off the planet and they stop getting calls. The Edmonton game, followed by the Kings game (apparently boarding and head hits are legal again) seem to support this. When a team scores 11 PPG in two games, the other GMs should take notice, but the referees should NOT, and they seem to have.
2) I have center ice. I get to watch the games out east. They are called by the new NHL standard that we were sold on last year. As the start time of the game gets later, the calls stop being made. The NHL *HAS* to fix this. It seems that the league doesn't care as long as the games in Toronto's time zone are called tight, and that is wrong. The league has ample talent out west, and they ought to showcase it, and not let it be neutralized by allowing the dreaded clutch and grab to re-enter the game.
