Some Community Tips for 2007 | fortuitous:
Every year or so I write a long post or do a presentation at a conference on the subject of community. Each time I approach the subject, I take what I’ve already written and add to it with recent things I’ve learned or learned long before and only recently realized.
What he said, in spades. I especially like his realization that they’re guidlines, not rules. Only in my mind, they ARE rules, but I always tried to write the rules to make it clear that the admins had the right to do what they felt needed to be done, whether or not the rules covered the situation — because there are always situations not covered in the rules. For better or worse, you can call that the “because I’m the mommy” rule, but then, someone has to be the mommy…
