But yesterday, my spec-focused opinion was essentially shot down by my wife, who was really impressed with the new Nano, in particular, the colors (she likes purple), and the “shake to shuffle a song” feature. She ordered a purple iPod Nano last night. Based on my wife’s reaction who is decidedly non-technical, it’s a safe bet the mainstream masses will really dig the colors.

How deep is Apple into our wetware these days?

I’m in training this week, in a room with 8 other people learning how to geek bits and bytes. And during a break, one of them suddenly said “Hey, look at the new colors the iPods are coming in!” First thing I heard on the updates yesterday.

And somewhere, I hope a Microsoft product manager is thinking, “Purple… why didn’t we think of that?”

Except that’s not part of the corporate DNA. they could, but would people believe them or pay attention? Would they believe themselves?

I could put on a tutu and a pair of ballet slippers, and it wouldn’t make me a ballet dancer (it might put me in the running for the chorus line for the broadway remake of Fantasia, but that’s a different story…)
