Well, as you can read in the forums, a lot of people with Firewire videocamera's use the Macbook because the formfactor. If Apple is saying, if you own a Firewirecamera, you must buy as a pro, I think they make a mistake. If they want to make up, why not make a 13' MBPro? Would make more sence for the roadwarriors. Thanks for responding, by the way.

Don't forget in the last financials release there was a comment from Apple about lower margins in the next product release.
That had a hand in people expecting cheaper products.

In regards to the cheaper laptop bit: Why would Apple lower the price? They already stated that they've matched last years sales and for every three dollars spent on computers $1 is Apple. So lets lower the price for what?
Consumer A is already thinking about getting a Mac. They are already willing to fork out $n for one. Why lower the price? Will Consumer A buy it sooner? Maybe, but it might still be within the same quarter so that sale still happens then. But that still doesn't change the fact that Consumer A is still WILLING to buy it at the current price.

I just got the aluminum MacBook for my future in-laws in London to use as a videoconferencing terminal.
I myself downgraded from a 15" MBP to a MacBook Air SSD 8 months ago (my primary computer is a desktop). I miss the Gigabit Ethernet, but not the Firewire. I don't think Firewire/USB/eSATA drives cut it nowadays and use a home-grown Solaris NAS for my storage needs. I would have considered upgrading to the new Air if it had 4GB of RAM, but I guess we'll just have to wait for the next generation.
As for the screen size issue, the combination of a MacBook with a 24" LED Cinema Display compares favorably with the MacBook Pro.

I'm surprised at the level of disappointment over FireWire. I doubt FireWire ever would have been in the iBook/MacBook line if it wasn't for FireWire-based iPods.
