I'm way late to the party on this, but...
Dany Heatley Part 2: Dear Doug Wilson. Without asking whether or not the rumors of the Sharks trying to get Heatley are true or not, an earnest question: ARE YOU CRAZY? He can score goals, but he hasn’t shown his ability to be a winner (as opposed to a whiner, which he’s proven quite nicely). He’s a chemistry problem waiting to happen, and bringing him to San Jose will be the worst mistake the Sharks could make since, um, Ray Sheppard and Craig Janney. Please don’t.
THANK GOD I'M NOT ALONE! I was beginning to think I was. People all over are thrilled because on paper Dany is good. He's gelling with Joe... I give them until March and then things will sour.

Would Cuban be a good hockey owner? Probably.

Would Cuban be seen as a good hockey owner by other owners, given his activities in the NBA? I'd guess 'not likely'. The baseball owenrs sure didn't seem to be enthused at the thought.

Part of the job of being an owner is cooperating and working with the other owners for the good of the sport. Balsillie has shown no interest or ability to do that, hence the NHL's lack of interest in his money. And that's really the problem with Cuban as an owner, too. For better or worse, he doesn't fit into the club well. And it is a club -- which is both good and bad.

Chuq: If I've read it wrong I apologize, but I disagree with you about Mark Cuban. He has been a fantastic owner. Sure, he isn't going to be to the likings of "old school" management because he is open to new ideas, willing to OPENLY discuss them, try them, keep the ones that work and quickly throw out the ones that don't. He has been innovative and as far as I can tell done everything he can to move the game (and business) forward. Short sighted ownership just stagnates the game to keep the money in their (and the good ole boys) pockets.

I wish Mark had a stronger liking for hockey. The NHL could use an owner like him.

I agree with you totally on Heatly. I was sympathetic to Heatly wanting out of Atlanta, giving him the benefit of the doubt when it came to his reasons at the time, but now that he's at it again, I am seeing a pattern that I don't like. I like the Kessel rumors a lot more, even if it would mean dumping either Cheechoo or Michalek (I'd rather see Cheechoo go, as I think Milan has more upside potential).
