Terms of Service

Welcome to my “cover my butt” page…

In general, my policy here is “we are all mature adults here”. The less you’re able to act like one, the more I may decide to step in and protect the rest of my readers from you. I’ll say up front that I have little tolerance for abusive commentary or people who violate Godwin’s Law. As long as you try to discuss the issue and not the person, I’ll be pretty tolerant.

Those of you who like to play the “First Amendment” game, please note: this is not about free speech. There is a huge difference between saying “you can’t do that” and saying “you can’t do that on my site”. I have a perfect right to say the latter, I have no power to say the former. IF you want to be a blathering idiot on some other site or run your own site to blather idiocy, be my guest. Call me names, insult my intelligence, do whatever you feel like. Just don’t tell me I have to pay the bill to allow you to do that on my site. I don’t.

Fortunately, 99.99% of you reading this don’t need to read this. The other .01% won’t read this, but at least I’ll be able to point them at it when I need to, although we all know their response won’t be, well, team building. Oh well.

Content Usage Policy

Use of this content is bound by standard copyright law.I encourage people to use excerpts of this site and comment on it with links back to this site — that’s what the net is based on. Please do not simply repost entire articles on another site without permission, that is not fair use and hurts the original author by disconnecting them from the content. Do not syndicate the RSS feed of this site onto another public site without our permission; if you want to syndicate content, please contact me about access to a partial content feed or let us know what you are trying to do and we’ll see what we can work out.

Note that I am not using Creative Commons on this site, although I generally think Creative Commons is a good thing. Unfortunately, I’ve seen too many problems with people ignoring the rules behind Creative Commons, so right now, I’m trying to decide how I want to deal with this moving forward. See my photo usage policy page for my feelings aobut Creative Commons on photographs.

Comment Policy

Comments are welcome — actively encouraged. The general principle of “we are mature adults here” applies. I reserve the right to reject any comment that I feel is inappropriate for publication on this site because of language, content or attitude. Users who hide behind faked names and bogus email addresses on their comments shouldn’t be surprised if I show little interest in publishing what you say. If you aren’t willing to  stand up and take responsibility for your comments, why should anyone pay attention to them?
