In some cases, aggregation fulfils a useful function, as it did in one notorious case involving a Forbes post by Kashmir Hill that was based on a New York Times feature.   This is the part where I start playing sad trombone in my head. Because all your software options for online community are, quite frankly,terrible. Stack Exchange? We only do strict, focused Q&A there and you’d have to marshal your proposal through Area 51. Get Satisfaction, UserVoice, Desk, etcetera? Sorry, customer support isn’t the same as community. Mailing lists? Just awful.

  Forum software? Maybe. Let’s see, it’s 2013, has forum software advanced at all in the last ten years?

  He’s right, forum software still kinda sucks. Or really sucks. Nothing in the forum world matches what Stack Exchange does for Q&A. And they are still incredibly useful despite this  with the right people in them.

  “We will not be able to complete our purchase of the Phoenix Coyotes today in time to meet our deadline with the city of Glendale,” prospective owner Greg Jamison said Thursday in a statement. “However, our journey to purchase the Coyotes will continue.”

  A while back I blogged that if anyone could fix the problem in Phoenix, Jamison could — but that I wasn’t sure even he could. 

  I now think that some day, Jamison will look back on this and think “my god, I’m glad I dodged that disaster”, even though I’m sure right now he’s disappointed he couldn’t pull the financing together. And it’s time for the NHL to call it and move on, and get the Coyotes into a different city.

  I also feel for the folks of the City of Glendale, but ultimately, they put themselves into a lousy financial situation building an arena with financing on a house of cards, and now they’re paying for it. the hard way. That building should never have been built, and some of us felt that way even before they broke ground…
